A day trip to Mevagissey and Charlestown....

It has been YEARS since we last came to Cornwall and visited the South Coast area, I love the village of Mevagissey and we always smiled as a family at the thought of the tiny, tiny aquarium there which the children always remembered, so Anastasia decided she really wanted to go to for her birthday treat (easily pleased, my daughter). So another blustery day was spent in Mevagissey having lunch, shopping and visiting the aquarium then we headed off to Charlestown for more photos and a little more shopping. We were glad to get back to a log fire at the end of the day. Great fun though.

We make the long and winding journey to Falmouth .....

You don't have to be in Cornwall very long before you notice the amount of Prize-Winning Pasties and Award-Winning Pasty Shops around the place! We travelled to Falmouth and had a wonderful day in the town and the Museum there. For lunch I DID have the best pasty I have ever eaten but I don't have a picture. It was a bit windy but the harbour is lovely and there are great views from the top of the Maritime Museum. Also there is a small Trago Mills there! Anyone who goes to Devon near Newton Abbot knows that Trago Mills sells everything and is where you go on a rainy day in that part of Devon. The only trouble is that so does everyone else in the whole of Devon so you are lucky if you get a parking space, so who knew, there is one in Cornwall as well! In Falmouth and not so big with no parking, a sort of Trago Mills Express if you know what I mean!!!! It seemed to take forever to get back to Port Isaac but we made it.

A day, and I mean a day, on Bodmin Steam Railway......

Yes, we spent all day on the steam railway trapped by our all day tickets!!!! No really it was voluntary as the weather wasn't great and I could read my book in peace saving all the seats whenever the family got off to take photos. We went from Bodmin to somewhere then back, then somewhere else and back, then somewhere again and back and somewhere else again and back I think we did it again as well. I just know I was warm and enjoyed my book. We were virtually friends with the ticket collector by the end of it.

Port Isaac in a gale....

Wow, it was windy  in our house on a cliff. We went to Port Isaac to get some very fresh and cold air, it was busy and blustery but very picturesque as all typical Cornish fishing villages are. They film the TV series 'Doc Martin' here so it looks very familiar. We were ready for hot chocolate when we got back to the house! Can't wait to go back on a sunny day.
Port Isaac with the tide out.

Part of the village.

Wind sculpture, reminded me of 'Stingray'.

Low tide for these fishing boats.

A little break in Cornwall.....

We had a bracing week away in Cornwall at Easter time. We stayed in a lovely house on the North coast a few minutes from Port Isaac. Nathan and Teri joined us for the break and it was great to catch up with them.

We had just arrived and were unpacking cars and exploring.

Drive down to the main road.

The house

The well equipped kitchen.

We had a log fire most nights.

Scene of the Easter Egg hunt.

No matter how windy outside this was a lovely warm reading room.
