Downtown New York

On Thursday 21st April we had breakfast at Lindy's Diner then took the subway to South Ferry but the queues for the ferries to Ellis and Liberty Island were horrendous hours long so we just visited the downtown area instead. Oh well means we will have to go back again one day. We to the Wall Street area, the Ground Zero area, oh how that has changed again. Spent lunch time at Pier 17, sun bathed on the terrace watching Brooklyn. Caught the subway and taxi back to hotel. My husband took youngest daughter T-shirt shopping in the Times Square area. We stocked up on American cereal, Hershey's chocolate sauce and tootsie rolls at Klein's Supermarket where we couldn't get discount because of our name. In the evening we went to Greenwich Village for supper with friends. Subway back to hotel and cold footbath again.

Museum Mile

So, the weather wasn't great at the start of the day on Wednesday 20th April in NYC so we decided to spend the day in the museum's and gallery's we so wanted to visit. After breakfast we went to The Met, you could spend a whole day in just one of the exhibition's and still not see everything so it was a fleeting glimpse at as much as we could and we know we can go back there and still see more. It was busy, busy, busy. Don't go in the Easter holidays is my recommendation. There was a great singing group busking outside. We had a hot dog in Central Park with a jazz group serenading us. Caught a taxi back to hotel midtown to drop off bags i.e. souvenir paintings we bought. Then went to MOMA to see Monet and Dali paintings, I went to the American Folk Art Museum to see my beloved quilt exhibition which has its own posting. We all met up at Rockerfeller Plaza (perhaps the only place I can find on my own). Supper at the Red Flame Diner then spent the evening at the Top of the Rock Observation Deck. Long day, cold foot bath in order.

Quilts Galore

I spent a wonderful time in the American Folk Art Museum Wednesday 20th April. They have a quilt exhibition on right now. I missed a wonderful one at the Park Avenue Armory last month of red and white quilts. However the Folk Art Museum displays were beautiful and inspiring. The shop had some lovely things and the shop at Columbus Ave as well.

New York, New York

The girl's, my husband and I got back about a week ago from a fantastic break in New York City. We spent last weekend recovering from jet-lag, meaning I slept all weekend. After another busy weekend I am at last getting round to blogging about our trip. We travelled to New York on Tuesday 19th April and arrived about lunch time American time. We checked into the Hilton but our rooms weren't quite ready but we were able to drop off our bags.  We went to Times Square, had lunch at 'The Red Flame Diner' which is highly recommended, great menu, great service. We went to Macy's, H&M, the New York Public Library which is ok, Jake Gyllenhaal didn't burn all of the books.Went mad in Barnes and Noble buying up books I can't get here in England easily. We moved on to St Patrick's and Rockerfeller Plaza, the lego shop. Watched the skating for a while then went back to the hotel shattered had a rest then popped out to Lindy's for supper then collapsed into bed at last.
